Storyboarding

We have almost finished storyboarding and this is what we have done so far:

Jhene Aiko - 3:16am

We are still in the process of storyboarding our music video and coming up with shots. We have used this video by Jhene Aiko who is also the artiste of our current song, to help us to get some ideas for shots. We like the idea of the actress lying on the floor and hope to use this in our video. We also like the idea of two of her in one shot and we have implemented this into one of the scenes so that you can see two of our model, one of whom looks to be coming out of the other almost like a spirit.

Initial storyboarding

We have started to annotate our lyrics and come up with scenes for the very first verses:

Our Pitch

Last Friday we pitched our treatment to the class in order to gain feedback and see what we can improve on:

From the audience feedback we mainly gathered that our pitch was not detailed enough and we were not sure enough on what our video is going to be like. One of the main reasons for this were that we had difficulty choosing a song for our video and once we had decided we did nor have enough time to come up with a detailed pitch. We could improve this for the future by ensuring that we are fully organised and ready for every task we have to complete.

We were also asked about what exactly we planned to do for the video. We have now decided on some good locations as we are currently coming up with scenes according to the lyrics of the song.

Overall, we need to ensure that we know what we are going to do in detail and we are able to efficiently carry out these things.

I am going to make the relevant updates to the treatment and upload this to my blog.

Initial Ideas cont.

Today we continued contemplating different song choices for our music video. As well as the song choice I spoke about previously which was 'Don't Deserve You' by Plumb. We also have two other song choices which are 'Sacrifice' by Zella Day and 'W.A.Y.S' by Jhene Aiko.

We picked 'Sacrifice' because it is something different to the traditional love song where the music video can tend to be quite stereotypical. In 'Sacrifice' however, we can implement a different theme to it and it doesn't necessarily have to be about two people in a relationship. In other words the story of this song can be quite broad and we can therefore play around with quite a few ideas for it.

Our last and most likely choice is 'W.A.Y.S' by Jhene Aiko. We chose this song because, it isn't about being in love, or even being in a relationship at all. We have more interpreted it to be about the hardships that one may face in life and how this main character gets through those hardships. In other words, this is quite a personal song and we can play around with many different concepts for it. Also, due to the song having an urban edge to it, it means that there are many different locations that we could shoot the video in, especially being in such a big location as London. Overall we could do virtually anything with this song.

Initial Ideas

For the actual tasks we have decided to stay in the same group of me, Toyosi and Georgiana. I think that working as a group of 3 could be slightly more difficult than working in a pair because it means that one person can have the ability to hide and not put in as much work or be as reliable as others. However, I think it is also a good thing because it means that there can be more ideas and each individual has something different to offer to the group.

Toyosi and I have come up with a potential song for our music video. We also did some annotation to try and out an inner meaning to the song. The possible song is Don't deserve you by Plumb:

You're the first face that I see
And the last thing I think about
You're the reason that I'm alive
You're what I can't live without
You're what I can't live without

You never give up
When I'm falling apart
Your arms are always open wide
And you're quick to forgive
When I make a mistake
You love me in the blink of an eye

I don't deserve your love
But you give it to me anyway
Can't get enough
You're everything I need
And when I walk away
Take off running and come right after me
It's what you do
And I don't deserve you

You're the light inside my eyes
Give me a reason to keep trying
Give me more than I could dream
And you bring me to my knees
You bring me to my knees

Your heart is gold and how am I the one
That you've chosen to love
I still can't believe that you're right next to me
After all that I've done

I don't deserve your love
But you give it to me anyway
Can't get enough
You're everything I need
And when I walk away
Take off running and come right after me
It's what you do
And I don't deserve you

The song is about someone that doesn't think that she is deserving of her partner and we came up with some possible reasons for this. One of them could be the cliche reason that she cheated on the partner. However, we thought that this would be the typical view and there are already too many music videos out there based around this topic and we wanted to do something different and something other people wouldn't think of it. We also came up with other potential scenarios such as she is abusive towards her partner or she just didn't put enough effort into this relationship.

An idea that stood out to us however, was that this person could have an illness, specifically a mental illness that drastically affects her relationship with her partner and causes many issues in their relationship.

Our finished practise music video

Evaluation of the practise video:

Throughout the creation of this practise music video we, as a group learnt many things will help us and has also taught us things that will help us when it comes to producing our actual music video. Some things that went well during the production of this music video is that I think we planned it well and knew what to film when making the video. Also, I think we chose a fairly good location to film as there were ways of making it look like we were in a different location when filming the video. However, we had planned more than one location and it didn't work out due to time issue which I think is one of the main issues that we have to work on for the future as it is very important that we always have enough time to film what needs to be filmed. For our actual music video we need to ensure that we have enough time to film all the scenes so that we have enough footage for the editing process. One thing I think went well during the process of editing is that we were able to put everything together and ensure that it was all in sync. Also I think we did a good job of filling in any parts of the video that we may not have had enough footage for. One thing we need to work on whilst editing is ensuring that all the effects we use are appropriate for our particular video.

Media video shoot practise

Today we started to produce a practise music video to help us learn the skills needed so that we can do it well during the actual music video production process. This task will also help us to see how lip syncing works. We had the choice of songs Happy and Let it go from which we decided to use the Frozen track, Let it Go. My group consists of myself, Toyosi and Georgiana. We decided that myself and Toyosi will be in charge of filming most of the video and Georgiana was the singer who would be in the actual video. We had to cut the lyrics so that the video wouldn't be too long and we ad enough time to film it.

Here are some pictures of us during the filming process today:

This is one of the locations and we decided to film the first scene and verse here.

Here, we are setting up the camera, ready to film the first scene.

Here we are putting away the camera equipment after having filmed two scenes.

We will continue the filming in our next lesson tomorrow.
